Day 1 in Zermatt

Start off your first day in Zermatt by having a hefty breakfast in the lovely village. You may try Fuchs Bistro and Bakery which serves delicious bread rolls and smoked hams, accompanied by a hot cup of coffee.

Then ride the Gornergrat Railway which would take you right to the peak of Gornergrat. Along the ride, the cog railway passes through tunnels, runs over bridges, and stops at several stations. Throughout the journey, you are treated to panoramic vistas of stunning landscapes. You will get a glimpse of about 29 mountains, along with the peak of Matterhorn during your cog railway ride. It takes about one hour to reach the viewing platform of Gornergrat.

Upon reaching the summit of Mount Gornergrat, you will be welcomed by mesmerizing vistas of snowclad Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, and Dufourspitze. The blue ice of Gorner Glacier is equal to a sight never-seen-before. Day 2 in Zermatt

Spend your second day in Zermatt more relaxed. Have a late breakfast and set out to explore the little village. Cars are prohibited in Zermatt, but it is fun wandering here on foot. There are many small stores that are best for window shopping. Let your first stop of the day Matterhorn Museum - Zermatlantis. This is a very fascinating museum if you are interested in knowing about how Zermatt evolved from being a farming village to a world-renowned resort within a century. It also provides information about those mountaineers who have scaled Matterhorn to this date.

If you have enough time on your hands and are in the mood, you may hike to Grindjisee Lake. This serene lake is so crystal clear that it reflects Matterhorn which is a sight to behold. There are many tiny fish in the lake and it is surrounded by numerous rare wildflowers. It is a lovely place that would tempt you to spend long hours on its shores.

After returning to the village, end your 48 hours in Zermatt on a high note by visiting a lively bar in the village or by having a scrumptious dinner.
