The Mosque of Pasa Quasim is at present known as the Downtown Candle Mass Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a Roman Catholic Church that was earlier on a mosque in the 16th and 17th century when the city was in the capture of the Ottomans. This historic building is located in the main City Square and was built by Pasha Gazi Quasim.

This church stands at the highest point of the city square and is the finest example of Turkish design and architecture left in the region. The domed octagonal shape is just the highlight of the whole monument. The minaret and balconies are all new ones as the originals were broken down. The ‘Mihrab’ as they say does not exist anymore over here and the Women’s Balcony is renovated but upholds the authentic essence till now. The central portion is an open area with domed water bodies that are known to be filled with completely holy water till today.
