This iconic building is located right opposite Independence Square. It was completed in 1897. It is named after the king who ruled the state of Selangor when the building was being built. Though you can’t go inside (it houses the Supreme Court of Malaysia) it’s worth just watching the building from the outside. The architecture is incredible. The architecture is both Moorish and Mughal. The building has three towers of which the central tower is the most iconic. The central tower is 41 metres high, and has a clock on its face. The one-tonne Bell inside of the tower strikes every hour and a half an hour. In front of the façade there is a porch in Gothic architectural style. The building has witnessed many important events in Malaysian history. For example the flag of Malaysia first raised in front of this building. The time zones of the country were first standardized at this location. The best time to visit this location is at night. The building is lit up in Technicolor. Want to spend a couple of days in this beautiful city? Follow this Kuala Lumpur itinerary 2 days.
