Visiting the spire is more about bragging rights than anything else, really. The spire marks 23 degrees and 27 minutes south of the equator; in other words, the border between the tropical and temperate half of the southern hemisphere. Sure, it’s not the South Pole but it something. The spire itself lquite literaaly represents its namesake. It’s based on the look of a goat’s horn (that’s what Capricorn means).
